Meet Stavros, our Frontend Engineer.

You were the first person to join Fairlo in Heraklion, what has that journey meant to you so far?
Looking back at those early days, it felt like standing at the very beginning of something that could become anything. There was no “this is how we do things” yet, which meant we had the opportunity to define it ourselves. From day one, it wasn’t just about writing code. It was about shaping how we work, how we collaborate, and what kind of team and company we wanted to build. Being part of that foundation, and now seeing what it has grown into, is something I’m really proud of.

Alongside your role, you play a big part in growing the tech community in Heraklion. Why is that important to you?
Because great things don’t happen in isolation. Through DevStaff, we organize talks and meetups to bring people together, to share ideas, challenge each other, and grow. When you create spaces like that, you raise the level for everyone, not just individuals or companies. For me, contributing to the local tech scene is a natural extension of the same mindset we have at Fairlo: learning, sharing, and building something that lasts.

What excites you most about working in tech at Fairlo right now?
Right now, Fairlo is in a period of incredible transformation. Transitioning into a bank means we’re moving beyond credit into savings and payments, building a much broader, more impactful offering for our customers.

At the same time, we’re scaling our app, the team and our culture right here in Heraklion. What excites me most is the genuine sense of ownership and direct impact. We aren't just following a roadmap, we are defining the technical direction and the product’s future ourselves. Being part of a journey where the tech, the team, and the mission are all evolving at once creates a unique energy. It’s challenging, but seeing the daily impact of what we build is incredibly motivating.
