The Fairlo story begun thirty years ago with the family of our founders Jimmy and Shamon fleeing political turmoil and ending up in Sweden. Struggling to give her children all that they desired, Jimmy and Shamon’s mother took a small unsecured loan. It seemed like a good deal but it quickly turned sour as the loan increased in size in spite of the continuous payments. Much later, having grown up, the two brothers revisited this incident and it became the spark that ignited the Fairlo vision. The fact that a trusted bank took predatory advantage of their family, when they were the most vulnerable, became the starting point of a quest to create a fair credit service. Since the start circa six years ago, we've been working tirelessly to live up to the vision of an honest and easy-to-understand credit service. Without toxic terms, sneaky fine print, and nasty surprises.
With a strong vision and ambitious people, we’ve come a long way. However, we're still far from where we want to be. Our aim is to help millions of people get access to the tools they need to manage their personal finances. With innovative technology as our tool and desire for equality as our energy, we've come far. But we're nowhere near where we want to be. Our ambition is to help millions of people get access to sustainable finances.
In 2018 we launched our first-ever service: Fairlo Varda, a transparent line of credit product seeking to solve financial problems rather than creating them. To date, Varda has served over 40,000 users.
With our second product, Fairlo Levla, we built a transparent way for customers to ‘level up’ their Varda. This allows them to access more funds without the trappings of ‘line increase strategies’ taken by predatory and traditional lenders alike.
Today, we have offices in Stockholm, Heraklion and London and our team has grown to 27 people of different nationalities. We believe our diverse backgrounds and skills make it possible for us to achieve things others can only dream about. In 2023, we’re going live in the UK and for this, we need your help.
What you'll do
You’ll be hands-on: building the core services, including integrations with AWS and other third party vendors. You’ll be part of all stages of the development process, from requirements to implementation and testing.
We’re looking for two developers with a curious mindset who is continuously striving to ensure that Fairlo’s technology is top-of-the-line.

Want to start your own Fairlo journey? We're looking for the back end engineer with experience in:
- At least 3-5 years of experience working as a Software Engineer in a professional setting
- Proven experience with one or more modern backend frameworks (Express.js, Nest.js, .NET / .NET Core, Spring, etc.). Experience with Express.js is a bonus since our backend uses this framework.
- Solid understanding of web and systems architecture, design principles, and design patterns to build scalable web applications.
- Working within an agile software development organization.
- Communication and collaboration in a professional workspace.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory; working language is English.
Nice to have:
- Experience in TDD and other testing practices.
- Contribution in open-source projects.
- University and/or Postgraduate Degree in the field of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics or related field of studies.
