Oliver Joyce
Credit Risk Manager – Credit & RiskMeet Oliver, our Credit Risk Manager in UK
What excites you most about building Fairlo in the UK?
The fact that it’s still early. You get to influence not only the strategy, but the actual DNA of how things are done. That’s a rare opportunity. What excites me most is building something that genuinely benefits customers and something they can trust. The interesting part isn’t just creating lending models - it’s understanding all the small details that shape the customer experience and making sure the product works well in real life, not just on paper.
What made Fairlo stand out to you?
I really liked that Fairlo isn’t pretending to have all the answers already. There’s ambition here, but also honesty about the fact that building something meaningful takes iteration, curiosity, and a lot of problem solving as a team. That’s the kind of environment I enjoy most.
You studied physics before moving into fintech - does that influence how you work today?
Definitely. I think it shaped how I approach almost everything. I naturally like breaking complicated things down into simpler patterns and developing an understanding of how systems work. Credit risk is actually very similar in some ways - you’re constantly trying to understand behaviour, probabilities, and how small changes can create different outcomes.
And finally - what are you most looking forward to right now?
Probably the prospect of the challenge while collaborating with great people. Building something ambitious, together with smart people who genuinely care about what they’re creating, is a pretty exciting place to be.
