Meet Andreas, our Backend Engineer

You've been part of building the Tech Hub in Heraklion from the very beginning. How do you build a great engineering culture?
For me, a strong culture starts with trust, communication, and a coaching mindset. The best teams aren't built around individual heroes - they're built around people who help each other succeed. When people feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and learning from one another, both the team and the product become stronger. We solve challenging problems every day, but we do it together, with respect, collaboration, and a shared commitment to helping each other grow.

What motivates you most in your role today?
Technology is constantly evolving, which means there's always something new to learn. AI is creating very exciting opportunities for engineers who are curious and willing to experiment with new ways of working and solving problems. But I must say that helping and coaching others to develop and improve is probably what motivates me the most. For me, success isn't about individual achievements - it's about contributing to a team where everyone can do their best work and continue growing.

You spend a lot of time recruiting and onboarding new engineers to Fairlo. What are you looking for in the people who join the team?
First and foremost, we have one philosophy above all else: we're looking for kalos anthropos - good people. Technical skills are important, but attitude, curiosity, and ownership matter just as much. Whether someone is senior or earlier in their career, I look for people who enjoy solving problems, are eager to learn, collaborate well with others, and are excited about technology and AI. The people at Fairlo care not only about building great products, but also about helping their teammates succeed. That's been a big part of our culture since the early days of the Tech Hub, and it's something we're committed to preserving as we continue to grow.
