About Fairlo

The story of Fairlo began when our founders, Jimmy and Shamon, saw first-hand how unfair and predatory lending practices can trap people in cycles of debt. Their mother had been misled by a large bank, and instead of being offered a lifeline, she was pushed further into financial difficulties. That injustice sparked something: to build a company that reimagines credit – rooted in transparency, flexibility, and respect. That company became Fairlo.

Where we are now

Since launching in 2018, Fairlo has helped tens of thousands of customers access responsible credit when life happens. With approximately 50,000 active customers, a 4.7 Trustpilot rating from 4,700+ reviews, and an incredibly low churn rate, we're proving that transparency and flexibility aren't just the right things to offer – they're a winning model.

We're a tight-knit team of around 50 people across Stockholm, Crete, and the UK. Backed by some of Sweden's most experienced investors and driven by a culture that values kindness, courage, collaboration, and common sense, we're incredibly proud of what we've built so far.

Where we're going

We're now entering the most exciting chapter in our journey so far: Fairlo is becoming a bank. With this, technology is becoming even more central to our mission – scaling our platform, launching new products, and ensuring reliability and security at every step.

At the same time, Fairlo's AI transformation is already under way. We have a plan in place and people across the company are actively working on it, with the goal of becoming a truly AI-native organisation. We believe AI is fundamentally changing how great technology is built, and we want to be at the forefront of that change. For us, being AI-native isn't just about using the latest tools. That's why we're looking for curious, ambitious Fullstack Engineers who want to join that work, and who are excited not only about building great technology, but also about exploring new ways of building it.

You'll join our Fairlo Tech Hub in Heraklion, working alongside talented engineers in a cross-functional team closely integrated with our product organisation in Sweden. You'll have the opportunity to make a real impact on our technology, our ways of working, and the future of Fairlo.

What you'll do

As a Fullstack Engineer at Fairlo, you'll be part of a team where collaboration, curiosity, ownership, and continuous learning shape how we work.

We're looking for engineers who love solving meaningful problems, take pride in building intuitive user experiences and scalable systems, and are excited to challenge traditional ways of working. You'll have the freedom to influence technical decisions, explore new approaches, and help shape how we build software in an increasingly AI-native world.

In this role, you'll:

• Build across the full stack. Design, develop, and maintain everything from intuitive, responsive user interfaces to reliable backend services, APIs, and integrations.

• Own the full development cycle. Take responsibility from requirements and architecture through coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

• Create great customer experiences. Work closely with Product and Design to turn complex financial services into simple, seamless, and trustworthy digital experiences.

• Build for quality and scale. Develop secure, maintainable, and high-performing solutions that can grow with Fairlo as we become a bank.

• Embrace AI in engineering. Join the AI work already happening in our teams and help take it further. Explore how AI can improve the way we design, develop, test, debug, and maintain software. Experiment with new tools and approaches, and help turn what we learn into better ways of working.

• Collaborate across disciplines. Work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other colleagues in our cross-functional crews to turn ideas into real customer value.

• Be product- and feature-focused. Have a strong understanding of the value you’re creating for users.

• Challenge and improve. Bring new perspectives, question existing solutions, share knowledge, and contribute to a culture where we're constantly learning and evolving.

Who you are

We believe great engineers are defined by more than the technologies they know. We're looking for people who combine strong technical foundations with curiosity, ownership, and a genuine desire to keep growing.

We think you'll thrive at Fairlo if you:

• Are curious and enthusiastic about AI, already experimenting with AI-powered development tools and interested in how they can fundamentally improve engineering practices.

• Have hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular, along with JavaScript or TypeScript.

• Have experience with backend technologies and frameworks such as Node.js, Express.js, NestJS, .NET / .NET Core, or Spring.

• Are comfortable with designing APIs on REST and use OpenAPI

• Have experience from relational databases, and integrating frontend applications with backend services.

• Have experience developing and deploying web applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.

• Understand system architecture, design principles, performance, and security considerations for scalable web applications.

• Enjoy taking ownership, solving problems, and working collaboratively in an agile, fast-moving environment.

• Have a growth mindset – you're open to feedback, eager to learn, and happy to share your knowledge with others.

• Communicate clearly and confidently in English, our shared working language.

Most importantly, you don't need to have all the answers. We're looking for engineers who are excited to explore what's possible, challenge how things have always been done, and help shape what great engineering looks like as our AI transformation moves forward.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices architecture.

• Experience with TDD and other automated testing practices.

• Experience with frontend performance optimisation, accessibility, and responsive design.

• Contributions to open-source projects.

• Experience building AI-powered features, using AI coding agents, or introducing AI-enabled engineering workflows.

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics, or a related field.

• Experience with event driven architecture

• Experience with queue management systems

• Experience with monitoring platforms such as Grafana, Kibana, Sentry
