Meet Nikos, our Backend Engineer

What excites you most about starting your first role as a software engineer?
This is my first full-time role, and I’m really excited to take the step from studies and personal projects into working as part of a professional engineering team. I’m especially excited about learning how software is built and maintained in a real production environment, together with experienced colleagues. Being able to contribute to real products, collaborate in a team, and continuously improve my skills is something I’ve really been looking forward to. I enjoy taking responsibility and learning through doing.

What made you interested in Fairlo?
What attracted me to Fairlo was the combination of strong technical ambition and a clear purpose. I really like the idea of building products that aim to be fair, transparent, and genuinely helpful to people. Fairlo also stood out to me as a place where learning, ownership, and collaboration are encouraged, which feels like the right environment for me to thrive.

What experiences outside of tech have shaped the way you work?
Alongside my studies, I worked several summers in hospitality, which taught me a lot about teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Working in high-pressure environments helped me stay calm, adapt quickly, and collaborate with different types of people - skills that I find very valuable in software development as well.
