Tanya Kharyna
Quality assurance engineer – TechMeet Tanya, our Quality Assurance Engineer.
We often say you know the Fairlo product better than anyone - do you agree?
When you work with a product for many years and you are deeply involved in testing and releases, you naturally get to know every corner of it. You see how everything connects, from APIs to user flows and edge cases. You don’t just test features, you understand the product as a whole system. Over time, that creates a very strong relationship. I care about how it behaves, how it feels for users, and how stable it is. That’s why it feels almost like your baby - haha. I want the product to be healthy and strong, just like you would want for something you’ve helped grow.
You started as the only QA at Fairlo and now you are building QA together with a growing team. How do you see your role today?
In the beginning, I had to own everything myself: manual testing, automation, releases, end-to-end flows, approvals. That gave me a very deep understanding of the product and a strong sense of responsibility. Now that we are more people in QA, my role has shifted more towards sharing that knowledge, building good practices together, and making sure quality is something the whole team owns. What’s really important to me is fostering close collaboration - being on the same team with developers, product managers, and everyone else involved. QA is not just about checking for bugs, it’s about creating confidence. Confidence for developers, for the business, and for our users that our product is reliable and well thought through.
You’ve invested a lot in test automation. Why is that so important to you?
Automation is what allows us to move fast without losing quality. It gives us stability and makes testing more consistent. But more than that, it changes how the team thinks about quality. When automation is strong, quality becomes part of development, not something that happens at the end. It becomes proactive instead of reactive. That’s very powerful.
